Tweeting Operation Transformation!

No Comments 21 January 2010

Yesterday came the news that the team of politicians lost a total of seven stone in a week for RTÉ’s Operation Transformation. And damn are they obsessed with the show. It’s like those people hunched in health farms every morning sharing colonic irrigation war scars.

And they are tweeting obsessively. Well, mostly the Fine Gaelers’ to be fair!

Fine Gael’s Fergus O’Dowd waves buh-bye to the bread sambo.

Senator Jerry Buttimer notches up his loss.

The odd Fianna Fáiler gets into the action too. Here comes Wexford’s Sean Connick.

Even the new Tweeters are eschewing the chance of talking policy to tweet on their weight loss.

Fine Gael’s Tom Sheahan of Kerry South.

Fine Gael’s Senator Phil Prendergast of Tipperary South. All Operation Transformation tweets!

The Defence Forces shows us how it’s done!

And a lil shoutout from the Defence Forces official account.

Is there a mini-competition happening do you think? Perhaps a bet?

Victoria and Shane Grow Their Own (No, No, No)

Catch RTÉ1′s much-vaunted reality show starring Victoria Mary Clarke and Shane McGowan last night that followed the pair learning the ins and outs of veggie growing? Far from being the billed reality show, we were treated to VMC visiting her BFFs, all fabulously intertwined into the faded vestiges of landed aristocracy and the Orts.

Besides the dubious well of reason of growing potatoes in planting pots, VMC came up with the goods talking about her conversations with angels. All matter of fact. Yet only a few minutes before she peepeed one of her plant experts telling her that his plants instructed him to attack encroaching black slugs with pair of scissors at night. Now, which one is more sane?

We were also treated to a lesser-seen Guinness, a BFF and cousins of Lily Allen. There’s a double ding score on that. This all transpired while VMC dancing around McGowan indie fame like a post-modern Sharon Osbourne; McGowan ‘s culchie expertise being hammed up for off-beat comic relief.

Is it too cynical to believe that this piece was timed to up the sales of ‘Fairytale of New York’?

Yesterday’s Today with Pat Kenny featuring the European candidates of the North West is well worth a listening. Cue blowhardism and wrangling over the costs of billboards! Parts one and two.

There’s still time to nab an audience seat for next Wednesday’s show broadcasting from Cork featuring the principals for the Euro South constituency. You might get to ask the candidates a question too!

Seats are limited to 100, so get in there quick!
