On TV3′s reporting of Brian Lenihan’s Health

3 Comments 26 December 2009

Appalled at the style and timing of reporting of Brian Lenihan’s illness by TV3 as well as contribution to the report by St Vincent’s Prof John Crown. Halligan has all the sensitivity of a hawk-eyed, coiffered gravedigger despite pointing out how TV3 spared the Lenihan family Christmas. Bleeding hearts, I am sure.

Wishes to the Lenihan family this Christmas. I hope they will be given space on this.

Update: If you’d like to show you support of Brian Lenihan in a passive way, you can add the Politics Aside, We Wish Brian Lenihan Well page on Facebook.

The Lost Santa Letters

No Comments 24 December 2009

As Santa was winging his way around the world tonight, he’s seemed to have lost a pair of letters over my house. Whatever he is doing with them on his sleigh is beyond me.

So, if the owners of these want to claim them, they can pop me a mail.

St James Gate on Fire: Home of the Black Stuff Goes Black

No Comments 21 December 2009

Just as the curtain goes down on the year-long celebration of Guinness’ 250th anniversary, the mood and sky is black over St. James Gate as a fire raged through one of the buildings on the complex.

Reports have placed the fire in a out-building away from the main brewing operation and have confirmed that no Diageo employees have been injured.

BBC World News Live iPhone Application

No Comments 21 December 2009

There’s such a plethora of news applications in Apple’s App Store, that’s it’s rare I come across a gem I have to share. The BBC World News Live application is one such find. While it’s not new, it’s one that’s dead handy to have in your pocket.

The BBC World News Live application developed by Livestation streams the World News service channel through your iPhone. If you are on wifi, it streams high-quality video and if you’re on 3G, then you are served lower-quality but still watchable video.

This morning between avoiding getting up to pack for home, I watched Alan Cummings host a documentary on cabaret clubs from Weimar through the Second World War. Sumptuousness.

Why is The Sunday Times so afraid of bloggers?

No Comments 20 December 2009

So the response of The Sunday Times’ trolling piece on the death of Irish blogs is alive and kicking.  I am not going to barge in and rechew all of the comment.

What The Sunday Times doesn’t understand that most bloggers don’t want to be journalists, but secretly might want to be better writers, working out ideas or perhaps – and let’s stretch here – for the fun of it.

Why is a British newspaper so afraid of bloggers living in Ireland? Would the French not be a more suitable target or is this the further tabloidisation (look, a new word invented – the sacrilege!) of the Sunday Times? Perhaps Brenda Power can write the next blog piece….

Were I the imbodiment of the Sunday Times, I’d be more worried about the melding of new news sources like Mark Little’s upcoming project. But perhaps that’s just me being rational.
